WEB APPLICATION MODERNIZATION
A cybersecurity company, Power Generic, needed to modernize its interface and improve its first-time onboarding experience. Through collaborative workshops, the team addressed the needs of 3 key personas. We developed an onboarding experience for a new freemium modal that blended directly from their marketing site.
UX / UI Design Lead | Toolbox No. 9
Facilitated Workshops, Lead Designer, Wireframes, UI Designs, Styleguide, and Development Hand-off
Duration: 2019 | 3 MONTHS
Power Generic was looking to align their product and business strategies to expand their reach down-vertical.
At the time, Power Generic was positioned as a cybersecurity management product for large enterprises. Power Generic came to Toolbox as they were expanding downward in their vertical, pivoting to a self-service freemium model to evolve their product. We were tasked with improving their first-time onboarding experience and improving the application for first-time users.
Through interdisciplinary workshops, we learned
there were 3 key personas that needed to be addressed.
Developers
Access Test Enviorment
Confirm Environment Compatibility
Competitor Comparison
Risk & Compliance
Review Activity
Templatized Activity Reports
Exportable Activity Audits
Security Novices
Implementation Guidance
Best Practices Templates
In-App Feature Onboarding
A first-time login experience was designed to confirm the product value for each persona within 10 minutes.
The user flow takes a developer from powergeneric.com through a test environment and into the freemium application that could then be shared with decision-makers in Security and Risk & Compliance
The new flow allows developers to set up a test environment to confirm Power Generic meets their technical needs. In the test environment, a tour panel walks the other two personas through the interface highlighting key features that address their needs, while prompting users to customize their environment to lead them past the future paywall.
A secondary goal of the project was to modernize the interface.
Power Generic recently completed a rebranding initiative that included their website and renaming the application. Our task was to bridge the visual gap between their new brand, existing application, and the addition of new screens and features for the first-time login flow.
Taking a few of the application key sections, I worked to adapt the new brand guidelines to the views. Through collaboration with the Power Generic team, we landed on a UI direction that would provide users the option to change between dark and light modes.
Power Generic’s development team has been consistently working on implementing our work into the product.
The demo flow has been implemented and is one of the key call-to-actions on the marketing site. The updated styles and other major changes to the product are still in progress of being developed. As the product team worked, Toolbox No. 9 engaged in a new project with Power Generic to help upgrade their marketing site.
